Before You Upgrade OBS, Run This Cam Stream Checklist

Upgrade OBS between shows so you have time to test your setup and restore it if needed.

Before upgrading

• Export your OBS profile and scene collection. The profile holds output settings. The collection holds scenes and sources. Back up the local media those scenes use and keep the files private.
• Note your current OBS version. Check that your plugins, alerts, and overlays support the version you plan to install. OBS 33 can still load plugins from older locations, so a Legacy label alone doesn’t tell you whether a plugin works.

How to export an OBS scene collection

Open Scene Collection → Export and save the file outside your OBS configuration folder. Use Profile → Export for your output settings. Keep a separate copy of any images, videos, or audio files your scenes use.

Before going live

1. Open your usual profile and scene collection. Switch through the scenes you use and check the camera, mic, and overlays.
2. Record a short sample and play it back. Check the streaming audio track too if your recording uses a different one. Troubleshoot missing mic audio.
3. Use your platform’s documented test mode if it has one. For Chaturbate broadcasters, starting OBS can put the room online even when you’re logged out. Start only when you’re ready to be seen. Stop the stream in OBS and confirm the room is offline. Chaturbate’s OBS instructions.

If a critical tool fails and you roll back, restore the saved profile and collection and repeat the checks before your show.
